This beauty was a gift from my sister this weekend. She really loves her auctions and always seems to acquire some beautiful and unusual things. I've never seen a vase inside an original box like this. The box itself is a bit worn but is covered in a rich burgundy brocade fabric with a gold silk lining. The rather heavy 18" tall Qianlong style vase nestles inside a fitted compartment. Kind of an unusual shape with raised painted birds and flowers. The top is somewhat reticulated but isn't cut all the way through. I've heard the term "garlic bulb" used in reference to it's shape. The mark on the bottom is an impressed Qianlong honorific mark from what I had referenced on Gotheborg's porcelain site. Pretty sure it's a mass produced piece that's not very old. However, at the auction a gentleman was also waiting to bid on it as well as my sister. She knows him as a regular who purchases a lot of Asian art. He stepped out for a coffee and it went on the block before he got back. My sister saw her chance and bingo. He congratulated her on a nice score despite his disappointment. He didn't elaborate or offer any information about it's value or history. I wonder what he actually knew that made him want it so badly ?? -Mike-

If I had this I know that I would treasure it. The raised decoration is what I love most about it, great score Mike !~

It's a beauty Mike. The clear colours and lack of busyness makes this for me. Detailed, not fussy.
I know the Quanlong chop has been used recently and copies abound, but you may have a goody. Might be worth getting it checked!
      Thanks dear sister :)

Thanks so much for the nice comment Karen. When Cathy presented me with the box I was like...."Hmmm this reminds me of your post with all the wonderful glass boxes you have. I felt like I finally made it into an "elite" club....lol. I have two more vases sans boxes but they are pretty and a slew of Roseville that I had to put in storage for now. Just no room in the inn. I'll try and post them soon. :)
