One of my mini flower basket pins, made of Long Pine Needles. It is stitched together with Raffia using the "Wheat Stitch". This came from Florida and was made sometime in the 1950's. They were made to sell to tourists and members of the Seminole tribe made these mini flower basket pins and also larger plates with flowers, some encased in lucite.
This has tiny flowers that were made with sea shells that were dyed and painted and glued onto the Pine needles. I have another one of these pins, but it is put away and I can't remember where LOL. It is older than this pin and the shell flowers are larger and has less of the "leaves" than this one. This measures 2 and a half inches across and 2 inches in height counting the basket handle. I got this pin about 10 years ago, it is cute as a button and I have worn it many times. It always gets a compliment from people :)
This is an absolutely gorgeous pin Tlynnie! Such talented tradespeople created this with small shells, your photos really show the detail. Lovely post, thank you for sharing
Thank you, Newfld :)
