Ok, so I just got this necklace. The lady at the store said it was resin, but I don’t be think it is. It is very heavy and when clicked together sound like some sort of stone. I took a pic of inside of one of the beads. Any ideas on material or age??
Any ideas on what this is made from? I tried a hot needle and it didn't leave mark. Beads are cool to the touch. Some kind of stone??
If it was ivory you would see cross banding..and if bone you would see tiny dark vein cavities on the surface, hard to tell from the photos..a lot of faux... ie; cutlery was molded to look like this but if real you would see the cross banding on the ends of ivory..want is that line around the top of each large bead?..nice by the way...:-)
Those lines actually looks like they trying to make it look like faux ivory to me anyway..:-)
Inky, thank you for the comment and info :)
Thanks for all the loves
Well it def has an overlay as you can tell by looking at it. Note how the inside color differs greatly from the outside color. Also looks rather hollow from the one view. I have alot of stones I am trying to ID! There are some Facebook groups that are pretty helpful and active, but also alot of uneducated advice! Also you can try some forums like Morning Glory antiques , CJCI website or Facebook page...if you'd like more research links I can hook you up with some of the better ones! Believe me I've been researching for 2 years on some pieces!
Tharless, thanks for those web names!
