This is a very unusual carved wooden statue of a monk or Buddha. what is so unusual are the positions of his hands. one is pointing upwards and the other is clutched at his chest. this is not a known mudra, as far as i know. but it could be Buddha pointing at the moon, which is a very interesting parable about not confusing the carrier of the message [or the language/words] for the message itself. regardless, it makes it a very rare type of statue. or is there some other explanation i am not aware of? any info appreciated.
