I saw this pair of Victorian vases at an antiques fair last month, & didn't buy them as I'd already reached my limit for the day...but thought if they were still there at the next one, I'd get them...it would mean that they were meant to be mine.
Of course they were, for they were there waiting for me!
Made from three layers of cased glass - clear over shaded "peachblow" type pink, with a white interior, they measure around 19 cm tall, around 10 cm across the crimped, fan shaped top rims, & 6.5 cm across the bases which have rough, snapped pontil marks.
They feature applied decoration of flowering branches in amber, white, & pale pink, & the top rims have applied crests in pale amber.
As is typical with this type of glass, they could be from England or Bohemia, as near identical pieces were made in both by numerous manufacturers. I am going to lean slightly towards Bohemia on these ones though. Haven't had a chance to test them under a black light, but I suspect that they may glow due to uranium in the white layer.
Beautiful pair-- I have one just just like these!
