    This is a recent estate sale find, because it was kinda cheap and it just appealed to me a little, from amongst bunches of likely much more fancy/valuable crystal and glassware. (at least judging by their pricing?) I'll be the first to admit (again!) that I don't really know much of anything about fine glassware/art glass/etc etc beyond what I've picked up hanging around here, so in the unlikely event this is actually a "something", y'all are gonna have to tell me about it...? (please??)

    It is made of amber glass, about 6" across and 2.5" high. Its upper rim is turned inwards with indentations for cigarette rests, and its bottom has (what I think is called) a pontil mark in its center, indicating it was a hand-blown piece. (??) It has a recurring pattern of roughly vertical as well as horizontal rows of 6 or 7 tiny little bubbles captured within its sides, all the way around. (and I don't have even the *slightest* idea how a glassblower would do **that**?? <wow>)

    Once more, if anybody can tell me anything about it, I'd love to hear what y'all think -- TIA! :-) :-) :-)

      This d*mned thing is continuing to resist any of my attempts to find out what it is. (or isnt?) <headdesk>

      Since showing it, I've scrolled thru pics of **hundreds** of ashtrays (here, eBay, BigAshtray, etc.) and have found numerous similar-ish (but not quite right) examples, attributed to various makers. (Murano, Blenko, and Erickson, at least?)

      SO -- apparently everybody (but me) knew how to put that 'captive bubble' pattern into a glass piece. More than a few of the similar ones I found are called "cased glass" which I don't believe this one is, if I correctly understand that term.

      Thanks so very much to Brunswick, charcoal, fortapache, vetraio50, sklo42, and jscott0363 for having a look and hitting that <love it> button in the meantime!!!

      It does have a pontil scar, so it is blown glass. It has what they call 'controlled bubbles' (I don't know how they do it either-perhaps there's something on Youtube that will explain.) Here's a link to an image search I was doing on 'murano type amber ashtray with controlled bubbles'

      https://www.google.ca/search?q=murano+type+amber+ashtray+with+controlled+bubbles&client=ubuntu&hs=Mym&channel=fs&dcr=0&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwi5iJKln9nZAhUSiIMKHTADAnEQ_AUICigB&biw=1275&bih=762

      I don't see any etched signature on the bottom, but maybe you could search too. The cigarette rests are equidistant, which is another thing to help with the search.

      I hope this helps a bit. : >/ (that worried look)

      Thank you so very kindly Gillian for your help :-) :-) :-) but alas, despite the many more (!) lovely glass ashtrays seen there, none look quite right either. <headdesk> There is not any sort of etched signature whatsoever on mine, so perhaps that will have to remain its "non-defining" feature. (maybe not a bad thing that, anyways??)

      I hate when that happens.

      I don't 'hate it' at all Gillian, instead just striking it up to one more 'puzzle' I haven't figured out yet. This is not a bad thing, and its still a fun chunk of amber glass...
      <lolol>
