I was so lucky to find this treasure. It was for a "song" and has beautiful color plates and line drawings. This work was translated by Margaret Armour and illustrated by the incomparable Arthur Rackham. I've seen these plates sold on their own and can't imagine taking a book apart for this purpose. Perhaps they'd already been removed, but someone had to remove them!

Love it Laura!
This is fascinating Laura, I didn't know Wagner's opera stories were translated into English (except in librettos at the opera). These are the basis for two Wagner operas, The Ring and Die Valkurie (forgive my jr hi German, took it for a compulsory yr in Lutheran school), are they not, I may be wrong - a very cultured post!
Thanks so much, Roy!
Jenni, thank you! Yes- these are the first two operas of Wagner's Ring Cycle. Your German is much better than mine, which is just about non existent!
