We recently picked up this awesome chandelier and are trying to find information on it. We did find the post at https://www.collectorsweekly.com/stories/65925-vintage-mermaid-lamps but would love to find any information on the origin of this particular piece. We picked it up at a shop called Sea Hive in Oceanside.
I remember a bar during the 1980's which had over a dozen of these designs which go good with ship themes !
The pose & snake-like tail remind me of the Brit cult classic movie The Gorgon, this is one interesting conversation piece!
My dad has one that may be the twin of this one. According to him it was given to his sister by a friend who picked it up off an old movie lot in Southern California. There's a movie made in 1977 called The Spell and my dad's lamp is in a few scenes. The friend told him that there were two of them so this may be the other. They look very much alike! I'm new to this site but I'll attempt to include photos of my dad's lamp/chandelier. Any help with that? I haven't figured it out yet.
I'll try sending links to the photos.

I have one of these aquired 1/15/2022 at a sidewalk sale in St. George ,Utah. Sitting on top of 3 automobile tires, sideways, how long it has spent in the open elements before I found her? I asked the girl inside about the statue outside and she said"isn't that an extra ordinary Mermaid?" I didn't even notice she was a Mermaid!, as I was mesmerized by her face and bust. She gave me the price and now she is home with me. From the elbows to the torches and forty % of the tail was missing plaster. Reconstruction finished she sits atop a table not hanging from the ceiling. I'll try posting photos. AJ.

Hi,
I was an artist for Jo Mead in the 80s, I painted many of these for her. It was one of her most popular designs. She sold the company to a friend of a friend, as she was trying to retire completely and then I went to work for him. He was in business for a few years in Chgo (where Jo lived and worked too).
Every now and then I go looking for a few pieces I would love to have, but can never find them. I own several of her castings that I really cherish. This mermaid chandelier is too big for my place, but she is great isnt she?
These are plaster castings that are dried, then primed and painted and finished to authentically look like antiques, with antiquing and layered paints, then hand waxed.
Oh and she did have many pieces that were used in movies on sets. I always tickled when I see an old movie with some pieces in it.
