Here's the first (of numerous more to come, probably) of my MAKER'S MARK BOURBON collection. One of my personal favorite choices for "adult beverage", Maker's is proudly produced in the heart of beautiful Bourbon Country USA, at their historic distillery near Loretto, KY. One of the most distinctive trademark features of their products is the (normally) red wax (kinda, its actually a plastic material of some sort) sealed bottle tops, every single one of which is dipped individually *by hand* during the bottling process. (thus, the drips on no two bottles are ever quite exactly alike) The pair of 50ml 'airline bottles' in the last pic show the typical color scheme.
BUT ANYWAYS, to the four 'special' 750ml bottles seen here. During the runup to the 2008 US Presidential Election <gawd, how it seems like that was a hundred yrs ago, instead of just a decade?!!> Maker's came out with a clever "ROCK THE VOTE" promotional campaign which included a very limited series of these custom labeled bottles featuring the red/blue colors and logos of the 2 major USA political parties, triple-dipped in (equal numbers of) either red/white/blue ['red state'] -- or blue/white/red ['blue state'] colored tops, with special hangtags including humorous political trivia bits on their backs. Instead of representing either candidate, they together promoted the "COCKTAIL PARTY"... <lol>

My 'red top' one of these was my first one, purchased (then consumed) during a work trip (to a 'red state') when I just needed supplies for the motel room stay. ;-) That must have been pretty near the beginning of the promo, since I didn't quite catch on to it until returning home and finding the 'blue top' bottles in my own local liquor store, where I bought one before they (quickly!) disappeared. I found (and immediately bought) two more blue-topped bottles (the last two on the shelf) on another work trip a month or two later, long after all had vanished from my own area. All 3 of those remain unopened with original contents intact. :-)
Along with the two (totally typical, also unopened) plastic 50ml bottles in pic4 are a couple of red plastic coasters in the shape/logo of the Maker's Mark "maker's mark" ;-) which is, in fact, also embossed into all their glass bottles. They are 'promo items' as well, two of a set of four received as a 'gift' over the years, after having signed up for the Maker's Mark "Ambassador" (fan club) program.

I've been an ambassador for the past ten years so they send me a gift every Christmas. For rye whiskey...I go with WhistlePig straight rye out of Shoreham. Vermont.....just sayin'
Coming at'cha down the bar buckethead -- sorry it isn't in a Maker's branded glass, but all those are still packed away in boxes. <sigh> I'm SO HAPPY you're joining me in having a little 'taste'?! (from my everyday bottle in the cabinet, not one of these)
I've been an Ambassador for at least that long too, and have visited the distillery twice during that time. In addition to souvenirs from those visits, assorted glassware, and the x-mas gifts, I've also got a few more 'special/commemorative bottles' to show -- stay tuned?! :-) :-) :-)
These are pretty cool!! I have a lot of friends that work at Makers Mark. I was born in Loretto, KY and grew up about 5 miles from Makers Mark.
Had a Canada Day Makers Mark bottle it had a red and white top.

Just a quick update - I came across another (also empty) 'red state' bottle the other day while gathering other Maker's items for future posts, so it seems I actually have 5 of them, total... :-)
do you know anything about the Maker's Mark 9/11 bottles? They also have the red-white-blue wax. MM issued the first run of these fairly soon after 9/11; but then issued additional runs sometime later. I have a couple of the 1 liter first run unopened bottles.
Not specifically TallCakes -- other than that they *do* seem to have a fun habit of issuing small run commemoratives for all sorts of things. [and GOOD ON THEM for doing so?!] I think I even remember seeing pics of one somewhere (maybe made for St.Paddy's Day?) which was dipped in *green* seal -- it just plain looked *strange*...? <lol>
If you're looking for specific info about your bottles, I'd bet you'll get a prompt and friendly reply if you send a quick email to the Distillery -- there are actually very nice folks at the other end of their website! :-)

Well if you don't wanna "collect" them yourself TC, you'd be much more than welcomed to pack 'em up and send 'em down my way, so I can "collect" them instead...?? <smile><LOLOL>
Or in other words, I would certainly imagine so, though I can't comment about the potential value/etc of any odd piece with any authority. I collect Maker's items myself simply because it it my personal favorite Bourbon. :-)
