This is a miniature Georgian era watercolor that I just received and that I purchased from a seller in Scotland. I am over the moon thrilled with my very first miniature painting. The frame is brass and the glass actually has an oval bevel running round. I am awed by this piece and will treasure it always.

Thank you so much, Judy! I just wish I could find out who he was. He lives on in this piece, but I wish I had his name. I imagine there is no possible way to discover this unless there's a database of unknown subjects of miniature portraits!

Thank you for the love to you, Judy, and to Pascale!

Hi Laura, it would be nice to know who he is.......I had a bit of a google around, there seem to be lots of miniature portraits around where the person has not been identified! One day he might turn up, you never know:-)
Forgot to say how much I like the Easel back on it too, it's great!

      It's fantastic Laura.
Someone loved him, to pay for the painting and mounting, and to keep and carry.

Thank you again, Judy. I am so glad you've enjoyed this post. I do have a small volume on miniature portraits from a particular collection, but it mostly discusses their provenance and many are identifiable persons. I'm amazed at the number of miniature portraits out there and that they've survived this long.

Thank you very much, Karen. I agree. I'm just incredulous that it lasted this long and is still in such beautiful condition.

Thank you for the love, T. and Karen!
