These magnificent photos were a gift from Marc up in Washington. Dated Aug 1967, actual Summer of Love Haight Ashbury Photos which I enhanced for better detail. The images recorded are more important than an accurate portrayal of the condition of the photos themselves. These snaps portray life as it really was as seen by someone living there in the famous Summer of Love. One of the most striking thing is that in everyday life in the Haight it is not wall to wall outrageous psychedelic clothes as TV and movies would lead you to believe. There are no news photos here, just a true glimpse into the past. Some other observations, I see the famous poster of Jerry Garcia of the Grateful Dead wearing his Uncle Sam Hat - which the hat itself later sold at Christie's for $117,000! Someone is playing the guitar on the street and I also see one of the girls is barefooted. Very interesting photos from my perspective. Thank you Marc.
Very interesting time capsule H.A., you really get a feel for those times - the clothes, the cars - my dad drove a VW beetle at one time, more for economy he wasn't a hipster lol. Nice post - Jenni
Jenni - your Dad was hip if he drove a VW Beetle... ha ha. UNLESS he had to drive it in the snow. I invented curse words pushing one up a hill outside of Keene NH in the snow.
