This item is/was for removing freeze/soft plugs from engine blocks. You put a hole in the plug then screw in the remover. A bar was inserted through the oblong hole and pried the plug. Some guys just knock them in but then it would hamper the flow of the cooling water. The Dorman Co. made them, they also made 80% of the freeze plugs.
A nice tool to have in the winter when you forgot to put antifreeze in your truck.
Is the other end for installing new ones?
I really don't know. It could of been.
This is the coolest looking tool i have seen in a long while, and may be one of the few left in existence! Having removed hundreds of plugs working for an engine rebuilder many years past, and i never saw nor heard of it till now! Do I think it would work? Probably not, as most plugs rust from the inside out, and this screw tool would be pulling dust and rust in most cases, (imo). BUT, it has the cool tool factor, and i want one for my collection real bad! Thanks For sharing it. PS: Do you know its age as im not finding anything like it on the dorman site? If you decide to sell it, let me know. Thanks
