This Victorian jug is clearly by the same maker as the preceding lidded jar. Once again, it is made from clear glass with a flashed overlay in pale pink. There is raised enamel decoration of flowers, including lily - of - the - valley (in the Victorian language of flowers it symbolised the return of happiness - no doubt why it was such a popular floral motif) & a gilded butterfly.
The jug measures 26.5 cm tall, 14 cm across the double crimped top rim, & 14.5 cm across the base, which has a partly polished pontil mark. There is an applied handle in clear glass.
I would suppose that this was once part of a set for water or lemonade, & would have had matching tumblers. However, it also makes a very practical vase for a large bunch of flowers.
Most likely Bohemian origin, & another op shop find from several years ago.

Many thanks, racer...funnily enough I also once had two small lidded storage jars of a similar style, which I sold. I seem to be a magnet for certain types of glass!

Many thanks, sklo42! Yes, when I saw the lidded jar I knew it would be the perfect companion for this one...

Thanks also, Ivonne, yes, the raised texture of the enamel is wonderfully tactile.
