Hello,
This is one of my prized bronze sculptures. This was sculpted by Juan Clara in the early 1900's. This sculpture is signed JUAN CLARA on the front edge of the stool. The little girl and her dog are so very detailed, right down to her well defined eyes. I see quite a few Juan Clara reproductions that are so poorly done. This is one of the best reproductions that I'd seen. The little girl was reproduced on many levels, but not as well done as this one is. This one is heavy and weighs 15 1/2 lbs, mainly due to the heavy quartz base. The sculpture measures 9 1/2" tall, 7 1/2" wide and 5 1/2" deep. The quartz base measures 10 1/2" long, 8 1/2" deep and 1 1/2" thick. This sculpture was extremely dirty when I took possession of it, but after an hour of cleaning, it came out very nicely.
For those of you who are unfamiliar with Juan Clara's works, here's a bit of history on Juan Clara.
Juan CLARA was born in a little town in Spain called Olot in 1875 and died in 1958. He is a sculptist and artist who is well-known for his sculptures of small children having difficulties with chairs and stools. That’s pretty much all he did, as far as we know.
The statues were casted in Goldscheider’s foundry in Paris and many of the sculptures designed by Juan Clara were exhibited in Paris. His very realistic and detailed children’s sculptures still fascinate many people all over the world today. I hope this one fascinates you all as it does me.
Thanks you all for stopping in for a look!!

I have him in a lot of my sculpture books, he did a lot of chryselepantine work with the children also. His sculpture is full of charm !~
