This is a bangle marked "830 silver" so it's not Sterling. The silver fineness is quarantied by two tiny swedish control marks. I can't understand the origin of the piece. It's not swedish but the control marks tells me it was imported to Sweden before 1988. The 830 and the design screams scandinavia but I should see makersmarks and I don't see any? The banded agate is not comon to see in scandinavian jewelry so I'm puzzled. Any ideas or other inputs?

I will store it for now in my category "scandinavian modernist jewelry" due to the 830 mark. We'll see....

What a lovely ring, beautiful striations in the stone, could it be in the carnelian family?

Oh sorry, I see you've identified it as banded agate, most unusual looking and truly gorgeous

Newfld thanks! Yes I think it is banded agate. I have an older brooch with bandet agate and the stone looks very similar even if this is more orange/redish rather than brown. I like the band in it.

On the Continent the Standard of Fineness, i.e. “Sterling” varies:

      Sweden is .830
The Netherlands has .833 and .934
      Norway has .830 and .925
      Italy has .800 and .925
France has a complicated system ranging from .800 to .950
      Germany is .800
      Denmark has .830 and .925

Whatever the content, it is beautiful and nice simple design !~

Thanks PhilDMorris. Here in Sweden we don't really use the term "Sterling". We say silver and then the pieces are stamped with the fineness. We have 830 but also 925. From what I have red the 830 is used more in Scandinavia than other parts of Europe. I think new pieces are mainly made in 925 because people don't want other metall mixed in.

I really like this beautiful bracelet, but it will inevitably end up upside down on my wrist.... :-(((

Thanks everyone. Valentino I think you are right. I will look again for the mark. It must be tiny if it is even on there...
