Found this buckle; assuming it’s a belt buckle, in a scrap iron pile on my Ranch. It was badly distorted and oxidized, started cleaning it up and thought to search for its origin. I found a similar buckle that was from the civil war. I doubt it can for the 1800’s. Just wondered if anyone had an idea whether it’s a part of history or just a generic buckle.

Your buckle looks like a civil war 1851 style enlisted mans sword plate. The silver wreaths are missing, not uncommon on these, and it looks like it has been excessively over cleaned. Stop cleaning it and leave it as is. The number on the back is the benchmark number.

Looks to be a modern, poorly cast/ poorly detailed version of a 19th century buckle.
