This Victorian vase is made from a single layer of opaque pale grey glass. It measures 26 cm tall, 8.8 cm across the top rim, & 9.3 cm across the base. The vase features enameled decoration of flowers, leaves, & a butterfly.
This was a $1 flea market find about 20 years ago...I think it was my first example of this type of enameled Victorian glass. I recall spotting it from quite a distance away, with only the back showing...except one tiny snippet of a painted branch was peeking around the edge of the vase & I realised that it must have decoration. What a lovely surprise it was when I picked up the vase & saw the bold & colourful enamel work. The price was pretty sweet as well!
    Most likely Bohemian origin.

Nice. Does this have a little hint of pontil ? You would probably scream, but I have used a razor blade to scrap off decoration before.

Lol Rockbat, we have all done things some would shudder at!
I love the butterfly on this IL!

Rockbat, I have totally scratched off decoration but as I rather liked this I left it be. But some of the hand vases I have bought have had terrible gilding that had to go. And one time I bought a wonderful piece of Victorian glass that someone had decorated with Liquid Paper (I could smell it as I removed it) And definitely no pontil on this one.

I agree racer, I have "customised" things on occasion to better suit my taste...
Yes, the butterfly is a nice touch. I have a few more decorated things to come eventually...
