Here is a vintage Alice Caviness fruit brooch, a 2 1-2" dark red garnet color rhinestone apple in goldtone, with a backdrop of a ruby/amberina (red to gold) glass apple with green stem by Rainbow Glass of WV, item #833 early 1970s, w/ faded silver foil label.
My posts this time are mostly red, for a very kind friend who loves the color red
The brooch is lovely, but I LOVE the glass apple!
Jenni, what a beautiful brooch and beautiful apple, too. I'm amazed at the shades of red, yellow and orange in the glass. How do they do that??? Happy Birthday, Eileen!
Anik your double compliments are so great, as a glass expert I am so flattered you liked my glass apple
Laura, so very glad you enjoyed both, I don't like to overdo combo posts but I thought both these apples deserved attention. It's a mystery to me too how they do that amberina thing, and every piece is different - some are more gold, others less, in this case it gives the apple a warm glow
Oh Ken I sure hoped you would enjoy this Caviness, it's really my favorite fruit pin, very large glassy round stones - this one had to go in natural light to get that true deep red
Very grateful to all for the kind luv

Thanx so much!
Oh dear me... I'm far from being an expert in anything :(
I just have a thing for art glass and think your apple is absolutely wonderful. But I also like sparkly brooches... I'm almost always in black and very often wear a brooch so that my students 'see' that I'm wearing a different outfit... don't know if it really works, but I think I'm really classy when I do :D
P.S. I enjoy your 'combo' posts! Love the way your items compliment each other.
I didn't even know the name of that effect. Amberina. I learn so much from your posts!
Thank you very much for those kind words Anik, well shall I say glass specialist then, as you have much fancier art glass items than my little animals & things. It sounds really great to wear a brooch with different black outfits, I enjoy black clothing with a bit of jewelry myself
Laura thank you for your nice comment as always, seems I usually come online at different times, hubby thinks I'm a secretary when he gets home from work lol. I actually learned about the amberina process from wiki when I started being interested in glass, usually the piece starts out ruby red, goes to persimmon orange then has gold around the top, but it can be the other way around, or just splotchy - I just got an adorable animal with a red splash on his back, will post soon
Vet you are always so kind, thank you for the love
Another dynamic duo Jenni, so clever.
The glass apple is a stunner, I love the colour graduation and that perfect stem.
Your brooch now; absolutely fabulous!
Thank you so much for the luv fort
Your kind compliments are so great Karen, thank you, I'm especially glad you enjoyed the glass apple, it took me awhile to photograph it so the red came out, sometimes it's more orange & tomato-ey from that amberina blend
Many thanks for the luv TimeT, greatly appreciated
