Found in the dirt in a shipyard after hurricane Irma here in St. Maarten. Trying to get a positive ID on it. Thought to be Dutch Indonesian(Java. Pronounced ya-va). There is no Y in the Dutch alphabet. "J" is pronounced as a "Y". It is superimposed on the Dutch colours. Looks like a croc., Islam symbol, a weird spotted animal with long back flowing horns & other unknown symbols. A friend from Java said he thought it may be their old flag, but not sure.
It is the Croatian flag. Croatia was once part of the former Yugoslavia & this flag was adopted in 1990. The central emblem is the Croatian coat of arms. So nothing to do with Java or Indonesia.

Colorful & pretty flag
This sure surprises me. Thanks to IronLace & Ivan, we have a solved. My croc. turns out to be a marten ! That lead me & my sailor friends to think tropical. Learn something new everyday.
Croatian currency is named after the marten (Kuna in Croatian) due to the fact Marten's coat was used as currency in ancient times.
Ivan, if I visit, can I get a good currency exchange on the black market ?

Lovely Croatian flag!
BlackWatch, do you want it ? I just dug it out because I didn't recognize the flag. I have no use for it & can't think of where to display it. Problem is getting it to you. I may be able to mail it via French poste, otherwise, the next scheduled friend's visit is in July. My email is on my profile. I have been trying to get rid of stuff for yrs., but more seems to accumulate than I get rid of ! After washing, it's as good as new(almost).

Croatian flag...on crown are 5 different images ,representing 5 regions in Croatia
And all 5 regios want to kill each other for some reason or another. A friend and I took a few tokes & flipped over the French Line to see how they were celebrating Bastille day (14th) and winning the World Cup the 15th. Might have been fun to have flown this flag on my bike & make a Blitz trip from frontier to frontier !
