In a previous post on License Plate Toppers, I showed two vintage airplane models a Curtiss P-40 and a Boeing B17C. The P-40 was recently restored and now has the Boeing B17C. This model is cast aluminum and originally presented with a cast aluminum ashtray. Due to the scale of the model (7" wingspan) and the wishes of the collector, the stand was replaced with a period correct "pylon" style. The model was similar to one on the cover of a Life magazine in 1940. The model was overhauled with that picture as the inspiration. Updates include
1) Machined aluminum engine cowlings.
2) New props and shafts.
3) various casting pits filled and covered with aluminum
4) Markings and other details that are period correct.
This model joins the P-40 and the Army Air Corps Topper head to the upper midwest to a aviation artifacts collector.
Enjoy!
