Can anyone help me in identifying this bear? It belonged to my father, who has had it since the late ´30s - early ´40´s, purchased in Britain. No label (or holes where label might have been), five joints, growler box, cone shaped nose but no hump on his back, looks like brushed cotton foot pads, embroidered nose and claws, glass eyes, hand stitching on the back, soft material in arms and legs but "scrunchy" head (wood wool?). 20 inches long. It would be interesting to know what kind of bear he is and an estimate of what he might be worth.
Could it be a Chiltern? The nose looks similar to some... He has 4 claws on all four paws.
It's definitely a cutie!! I'll bet our CW friend "betweenthelens" can help with this. That's her area of expertise. Hopefully she'll drop by. Welcome to CW!!!
He's adorable! Scott, thank you for the vote of confidence, but I am not an expert, by any means, only a passionate collector! He looks like a Chiltern Hugmee to me. Take a look here: https://www.vectis.co.uk/chiltern-hugmee-golden-mohair-teddy-bear-british-late-1920searly-1930s-clear-glass-eyes-with-black-pupil-and-remains-of-painted-backs-shaven-muzzle-with-black-vertically-stitched-nose-with-raised-outer-stitch-fully-jointed-velveteen-pads-with-car_440311
Thanks betweenthelens! I agree, there seems to be a definite resemblance there! Appreciate you and jscott0363 taking time to comment :-)
