QUESTION: is anyone able to inform me of how this lamp would have appeared originally? This is odd, because the threaded portion of the tube (in the sailor’s hand) is on the bottom - not on the top as would be expected. So where would the lamp holder go? It looks like the top of the tube was cut or unsoldered. The existing wire comes out the bottom of the tube. I just can’t picture where the light bulb would have gone. I want to re-wire to its original condition, but I will need help from you viewers. Has anyone seen a lamp like this before? I have looked on the internet for hours and can not locate a similar lamp. Please help!

There seems to be something missing on end of torch . Does it have a opening on bottom of torch ?
This is probably a newel post lamp for the end of a stair's banister. The shade would probably have been a flame shape. Unfortunately, it looks as if the socket attachment and shade holder have been broken off. Although, it could also have been a gas fixture, which would account for the threaded end of the "torch". Nice item. I am always looking for cool stuff like this, Great find!
Thank you for your comment, Johann. The lamp is actually on a marble base and has an electrical cord attached, so not gas powered. I just can’t figure out why there is what looks like an electrical fitting on the bottom of the flare, when the cord is fed through the palm of the hand, which should then be fed to a socket at the top of the flare? I will try to attach another photo. Thanks.
Hi Manikin. Yes, there is an opening and a screw-on fitting on the bottom of the torch.
I rewired this lamp, using the bottom portion of the tube in the sailor’s hand as the location for the twist off/on switch. The top portion of the tube I used a chandelier base holder and used a flicker light. The end result was a very realistic rendition of a sailor in distress. I couldn’t be happier with the finished product.
