This was passed down by my family for years. From what I understand it has inscriptions about the plans of the WWII on the top side of the box, a timeline on the sides of the box indicating significant dates. It's a cigar box made out of pure sterling silver with a wooden separator in the interior of the box. It is in an amazing condition.

      Hi from Sydney Australia!
Nice box! Does it have any marks to indicate if it's American or of other origin? I have heard of another box that is plated rather than silver which was manufactured in Egypt.
It must be quite large too!
The detail on the box is great! I was most impressed to see Anzio on the map of Italy. This is most unusual. Anzio is notable as sites of an Allied forces landing (Operation Shingle) and ensuing battle (known as the Battle of Anzio) during World War II. The Commonwealth Anzio War Cemetery and Beach Head War Cemetery are located there.
And the mention of New Zealand forces liberating Venice on April 29 1945 was news to me. It is amazing what one can learn fro these objects!
Thank you for sharing this wonderful item!

I am very familiar with this box which in fact is silver plated and not pure silver. It was manufactured in Cairo, Egypt during the WW2 era by "Granger". I'm very interested in others like it, or anything signed by "Granger, Egypt". Thank you!

I have recently purchased a similar item but has an inscription on the inside of the lid. A remarkable item silver plated. Made from the metal of the battle fields of ww2
