Hi,
Curious if anyone knows which furniture maker this might be from. Seems like a fantasy piece vs a reproduction but could be wrong? Antiqued finish, philips head screws- 70s probably. Has brass mailboxes and mail slot with VR on each box. Guessing that VR might be the company initials? Curious if anyone can guess what company made this. Not a particularly high quality piece- some particle board and veneer but solidly built with heavy brass and beveled glass mailboxes. Lion head pulls.
Old or not, it is an intense desk.
I would believe it is a sorter's desk for a metro area with a population of 50 or fewer residents. It may or may not be a reproduction or fantasy piece. I have lived in towns in New England where there weren't enough people to rent all the boxes. Long ago I saw similar items in the town store. You could sit and write a post card and slip it in the out box. Never can tell for sure if it isn't marked.
There are VR post boxes in England and the VR means Victoria Regina.

Thanks everybody and in particular Celiene and fhrjr2 . Just added a pic of the doors open. The VR brass plates are ornamental and don't open themselves. Thats why I'm thinking fantasy/replica. From the 70s or even 80s - it has that faux antiqued speckle finish. Can't remember what that's called... But yes Victoria Regina! Based on what you guys are saying it seems to be based on a British piece. Thank you
I have this same desk. I love it & most unusual. It is high quality and unique, I think. It was purchased at an auction in Dallas,TX. It also had a bed that matched it, but we only purchased the desk. I have often wondered about the origin of such a piece. How long have you had your desk and in what state did you purchad it? Do you happen to know the value of it?
One more thing...... I have had my desk for at least 30 years.
