      I love this but I doubt it was made to be an ashtray. First I don't see a cigarette/cigar rest. Second, I have seen quite similar items but they were doll house accessories. If you fail to find info on it being an ashtray, you might want to pursue research in another direction.

      My grandfather has one of these. His has a grate over the opening of the fireplace, so when a lit cigarette is sitting on the grate it looks like the chimney is smoking.
      If you have found any further information about the piece, I would be interested in knowing.
