Yes this crab looks like a louse back backwards. The back looks like the front etc from a top view. It is much larger of course at 4 inches from front to back of the body and 4 inches from claw to claw. Sadly I do not know anything about this crab (although now I know it is a spanner crab).
Bought this at the Shell Shop in Morro Bay, made a special detour to go there. It is a must see when travelling the central coast. Especially as the antique shops were on the dry side.
Hopefully I will pick up some shadow boxes for this and my other two crabs. I think the double glass sided ones would work best.
And no there is no smell from these.
Special thanks to TallCakes for IDing this as a spanner crab.
Wow, it really does. The largest louse I've ever seen:)
it looks kind of like a moreton bay bug which we used to eat in Queensland, Australia when i was a kid. they were really delicious!
spanner crab
Thank you very much Scott. At least they would be easy to see.
Thank you very much Ms.CrystalShip. I went there for the first time as a kid in the 70s. Still have the stuff I bought from then. I am pretty sure I saw the great white jaws on display. They also had several other large shark jaws for sale. It is about $600 for tiger shark jaws.
Thank you very much ho2cultcha. It is similar. Looks yummy.
Thank you very much TallCakes. Description already amended.
