    Yes this crab looks like a louse back backwards. The back looks like the front etc from a top view. It is much larger of course at 4 inches from front to back of the body and 4 inches from claw to claw. Sadly I do not know anything about this crab (although now I know it is a spanner crab).
    Bought this at the Shell Shop in Morro Bay, made a special detour to go there. It is a must see when travelling the central coast. Especially as the antique shops were on the dry side.
    Hopefully I will pick up some shadow boxes for this and my other two crabs. I think the double glass sided ones would work best.
    And no there is no smell from these.

      it looks kind of like a moreton bay bug which we used to eat in Queensland, Australia when i was a kid. they were really delicious!

      Thank you very much Ms.CrystalShip. I went there for the first time as a kid in the 70s. Still have the stuff I bought from then. I am pretty sure I saw the great white jaws on display. They also had several other large shark jaws for sale. It is about $600 for tiger shark jaws.

      fabilus taxidermy project fortapache
      bought a live spider crab had in me bath till me kiddiewinkles popped around
      but did move at all so not alive cooked it
      the smell very fishy indeed but there was fire scare in my building another building i lived in newcastle city centre the fire brigade had to search each flat felt a wee bit embarrassed at smell of crab
      however my kiddiewinkles loved the taste of crab claws so a success
      thank you for bringing back fond memorys of yesteryear
