I have been in New York City for most of this and last week. While out and about I ran across the "Charles Scribner Sons bldg, which is now a yoga outfit store, sad. Through the doors of "Charles Scribner Sons" building walked some of the immortals of American Literature of the early 20th century, F. Scott Fitzgerald, Ernest Hemingway, Dorothy Parker, Henry Louis Mencken, Sinclair Lewis, William Faulkner Dashiell Hammett and girlfriend Lillian Hellman, Robert Benchley, S J. Perelman Edith Wharton, Edna Ferber etc. it was so sad to see such a noble establishment bought so low.

A few blocks from the "Charles Scribner Sons" building is the famous Algonquin Hotel and it's infamous "Algonquin Round Table" where most of the literary giants in the previous paragraph met for lunch or drinks. The table currently there is a replica of the original and is always "Reserved", no one is allowed to sit at the table at the rear of the table hangs a painting that features most of the round table members. The table is cleared every evening and set up each morning waiting to see who shows up.

Great pictures rl, fascinating history about the Algonquin, I'm a NYer yet didn't know or recall that their round dining table drew many of those classic authors, & love that painting above it

When I walked into the hotel, I went to the front desk and asked where the round table was. The clerk behind the desk told me that it was a replica of the original, then pointed to the right of the desk to the table. There is a plaque outside the Hotel on the wall that commemorates the Round Table and it's literary guests.
