I found this 13” composition doll at a garage sale with no clothing but in otherwise good condition. I’ve done some online research and determined she is a McGuffey Ana doll also called Madame Alexander doll from the 1930’s. She has one mark and it’s a “13” on her upper back. I’ve looked at many images on google and see that most have braided hair and are blond. This girl has curly hair that is down loose and it’s auburn in color.
Trying to get an idea what doll she could be(there are many different names dolls) and her aprox value/year. I’d like to try and find an authentic outfit for her and so that info would help. I plan on keeping her but I don’t want to dress her in just anything;). Thank you for any guidance
Hi your doll is not a Madame Alexander doll the quality is not there . Many Companies made these dolly face composition dolls and not all were marked . She dates by her tin eyes to late 30's into 1940's .

If you look at several marked 13 all have similar open mouth and face , Maker unknown .
We don't do appraisals and any dress you find that dates from 30's and 40's will suit her .

I have a doll with a very similar face and hair, almost exactly like yours.
She does not have a composition body though. Mine is marked 170 on both her head and body. And says made in USA on her body too. The 170 marking on her head is right below where her wig stops. Does yours have any markings on her head?
antiquealyssa you have a hard plastic dolls I suspect she is 14 inches tall and these dolls were mainly produced by Horsman, Roberta, and Valentine company . They used Mary Hoyer bodies which her name was removed from and sold by her to other companies . Some company's use her head mold too but your doll I would say has a open mouth right and Hoyer had a closed mouth ? These dolls and the composition were made by different companies . Does your doll have a sour odor ? Many of dolls marked like yours have that hard plastic decomposing odor so your lucky if yours doesn't :-)
Yes mine is a hard plastic doll! Ive just recently started collecting dolls so I don’t know much about identifying them. To me this one looks so much like mine and other hard plastic dolls marked 170 and I was thinking if this one’s Head was composition it would have as more crazing like the body does. I could be totally wrong haha but could it be the same head but put on a compo body by a previous owner?
Lots of times the doll does not have equal crazing . This doll must have gotten wet or was stored in such a way the torso has much more crazing and paint lifting . The whole doll is Composition :-)
