This clock has a wind up mechanism. The design is unique, a disc shape in a bakelite dark brown type of hard composite material, without a stand, if it had one initially, and sit on a desk as a paperweight, it measures about 3 inches in diameter. It was part of an estate miscellaneous desk item auction lot. Original and unusual type of decorative piece that I can't resist.
    ----------
Here is more info I just came across today , too bad I did not find out sooner.

    Brand: Westclox.

Manufacturing: Western Clock Company. United States (Peru, Illinois).

Circa: 1930's. Black bakelite and golden metal. Art Deco.

White dial. Arabic numbers and blued hands.

Designers: Simon DeVaulchier & George W. Blow. 'Kaufmann Award' (1935).

What I felt was sort of recent, was 1930's and described as a purse or travel clock for ladies. It seems it must have had a case to protect it inside a purse with all it's contents. Even more surprised now at the condition of this clock. It was also sold in a box containing a small brass stand.

Westclox was great, probably still runs or can be repaired

Appears to be a Westclox handbag watch. Did you mean approximately 3 inches in circumference not diameter?

Newfl - Yes it still runs, but not 100% accurate over 24 hours.

pw- you are right, I just found out that is what it was meant for. Seems they made a few sizes between 2.5 inches in diameter and 3.5 inches in diameter. I have the larger one. Thanks for the link. Here is another one:
