So this one is personal. :) My Dad has two family bibles that look the same. One is his late aunt’s & the other, if I remember correctly his great grandparents’.
But since I can only post 4 photos :P this is my great aunt’s bible. I know Bibles were used to write family names in. Marriages, births, deaths or other significant events. Then it’d be passed down. But my great aunt went above & beyond that! Haha! There’s everything in here from dates when men came home from war & what country they’d been stationed in, when the family began harvesting the corn & when harvest ended, what date was really windy, when there was a bad storm & how much crop they lost. The first year they tried a new crop. There’s friends’ D.O.B.s & marriages. The saddest thing though is reading things like Little One died, so & so died at the age of 14 forty some years ago from being extremely ill.
There’s one entry of a man’s D.O.B. that was born in the 1800s, fought in both World Wars & he was 80, 90 some years old. I just think it’s really neat :)) I had to sit down & transcribe the writing in the Bible to paper because the pencil is fading & it’s easier for my dad to read. I loved getting a flashback to my family’s past. Some of these people I’ve only ever seen old photos of. I love things like this. So glad my dad has kept old family things.
Fantastic family treasure.
Great family history to have.
I have a family bible that looks just like this, but the spin and front pages are missing. Would your copy happen to have the printers information and the year it was published? I would really love that information.
