HILKKA-LIISA AHOLA (* 1920 Helsinki - †2009)
she started at Arabia of finland as a trainee in 1943 and went on to work in the art department there until 1974.
While being a trainee there she studied both ceramics and porcelain painting under the instruction from Elsa Elenius.
Characteristics of her work are her free, bold and expressive brushstrokes, like it can be seen on this faboulous piece.
This large bowl is handpainted in various blue colours and the name of thi faboulous design is Kuutamo, which is finnish for moonshine.
The bowl is signed by hand with: "H-L. Ahola" "Arabia" and "Finland".
In this case it is not only Mrs. Aholas design, this piece has been also painted by Mrs. Ahola herself.
There are far more details than on a normal Kuutamo Range item.
You can use the plate for serving or simply decorative.
Hilkka-Liisa Ahols was awarded with the Grand Prix, at the Faenza Ceramic Biennale in 1968.
