Pick this circa 1900-1920's Six wood slats flat top trunk up the other week. Measures in at 36 long x 19 deep x 21 1/2 tall. I was shocked to find an untouched trunk in this condition. Could almost be classified as a scratch and dent sale item from the show room floor. No maker name, but with original tray insert and is paper lined. You don't find them in this condition to often.. Thanks for looking!

Very lovely flat top! So pristine, which is rare...
Some of the hardware is from 1880-90’s but other pieces seem to be early 1900’s pressed tin. Parts from earlier periods were still available many years later. Nice find!

It looks similar to one we own, (flat top, wood slats), but in better shape. I'd love to know what you find out about it.

PS-- In my comment above-- I meant yours is in better shape than mine! :)

Thanks trunkman for the input. So with the cheaper tin hardware embellishments, your saying that it is indicative of trunks from 1900 forward?

Andreamw, I like the overall flavor of this trunk regardless of the cheaper hardware. I picked up an identical one yesterday and it retains more rust which is normal to expect. It is still in very descent shape but certainly not like this one. It will be nice to have a matching set for end tables verses a single coffee table.

Yes in answer to your question... the manufactures of trunk parts started making tin stamped hardware that was cheaper to produce than cast iron around the early 1900’s... sadly the quality of trunks began to lessen as a result.

I had a suspicion of something like that, even judging by today's standard and observations. Thanks Trunkman!
