I purchased this today. I am not quite sure of what it is called except a carpet. It measures 24" x 29" and it has a war theme. I purchased it from a resale for $7. If anyone knows anything about it, please let me know.

Oh my, such an odd carpet (or kilim?) with a disturbing theme... but I would have purchased it too, just because it's so different.

Thanks Anik, I thought it was interesting as well. I would just love to know more about it. I will research today.

It is the size of a prayer rug. These are known by collectors as "war rugs"-- if you do searches online you will find a lot.

They are made and sold throughout the region. They became popular during the Soviet Invasion/ Occupation. With US involvement in Operation Enduring Freedom they have seen a resurgence in popularity. They can be found with a myriad of themes and weapon systems.

They are very popular souvenir items for soldiers who serve in the area. Here is a link to a smaller version that I have:

Glad to help-- also, I should have said $7 is a bargain!
