My first gut feeling is a large wire crimping tool, for wire splicing? Is this an English Tool, from the Mother Land??

Hi lzenglish, I bought it in Ireland and have no idea where it started life. Thank you so much for your reply, it will give me somewhere to start looking.

This is an old-style cork press used to squeeze the cork, reducing its diameter, prior to inserting it in a bottle.

Hi UncleRon, thank you so much. Any idea of its age please

No real idea. I'd guess ca. 1900 with 25-30 years on either side. Probably made all through that period.
