This 2" goldtone brooch is in a sea anemone design, its flowing tentacles have scattered small white rhinestones, with a gradient molded emerald green glass stone that is ridged & sculpted to create a natural rock crystal appearance. By Marcel Boucher (1937-1971) from the late 1960s.
Very pretty, love that big stone and the cut !~
Love that , very pretty
Oh, that certainly is a very pretty one Jenni!!!
This is gorgeous, Jenni! I love the flowing tentacles with the scattered stones, and the large center stone's color is beautiful!
Wow Jenni, this is very impressive! Love it:-)
Phil that big green stone was very tough to photograph, because of all the cuts & ridges it was shadowy & looked partially black under reg lights so I had to go for my kitchen sunlight (hence the venetian blind slits) to get the true emerald green color - for those who don't know, my outside property is not private, so I have to photograph sunlight indoors
Thank you Arlette for the kind words
Scott I'm so glad you liked this rather unusual piece, I'm feeling the beach calling, hope we get down there soon at least to do some walking on our huge boardwalk at Jones Beach
Very nice compliments Laura, thanks so very much I'm so pleased you liked this. Didn't know much about sea anemones til I got the brooch & looked up the background, they are related to sea coral & jellyfish, ensnare their prey (fish) with the pretty tentacles then have a stinger filled with a neurotoxin. They are so pretty it's a shame they're also deadly - jewelry designers love them though & have been making beautiful images of them since the 1930s
I agree Judy, impressive & bold for Boucher, most of his pieces were lovely but rather traditional - thanx for the kind words
Thanks Eileen, glad you liked the choppy emerald green stone, and I also think the small white rhinestones accented the design very nicely
All your love & support is totally uplifting, thanks so much

Thanks Ken, it does seem to have movement from those golden needles on the sides. I have seen the stone also in coral pink & light blue as well as the green, real sea anemones come in so many colors

Thanks so much for the information. It makes the brooch all the more interesting!
You're welcome Laura, I also should say they're rarely fatal to humans, their main prey is fish, yet one type called the clownfish is immune to their stings, I love to learn this kind of thing. Looking at this brooch again, I can see it as a volcanic crater too, which is on my mind because of what's happening in Hawaii now :(
