So this Kutani Jurojin had a chipped thumb (the one holding the scroll), since it was damaged, I listed it for a low price on eBay, sold it, packed it up and sent it off, today I get a message from the buyer that the figurine arrived cracked. He said the box was smashed on one end, so naturally I assumed it was the fault of USPS, but the buyer said he was disappointed in the way I packed the figurine. Well, first of all, okay maybe. The way I pack figurines is I wrap first in tissue paper to protect the surface, then I use a layer of small bubble bubblewrap, then I use another layer of big bubble bubblewrap, I line the box with crunched newspaper padding and add more balls around and on top. Now, I read how other sellers pack their stuff, double boxing with peanuts and extra cardboard -- first of all, I'm lazy, second, most of the items I sell aren't worth the extra trouble. For this Jurojin, the shipping would have cost twice what the selling price was and I wasn't really expecting to sell it as it was damaged. Maybe I have been careless, though. I hate to think of people being disappointed when they get something broken in the mail, and I can't blame them. On the other hand, there isn't a darn thing in the wide wide world I can do about the United States Postal Service. Dealing with USPS is the worst part of being an eBay seller. I mean they seriously have to work pretty hard to break my packages, like one particular supervisor in one particular post office whom I have reported for being a rude jerk may take a baseball bat and smash my packages. Yeah nothing at all I can do about that, packaging won't help that.
