I went back to a charity shop today that I visited yesterday, mostly because it had a huge stack of green glass which could have been uranium glass, but I'd forgotten my UV torch. It turned out not to be, but I spotted 3 pie birds, and had always wanted one for my pies, so I picked the most traditional one. When I got home I discovered a reg No. under the label, and have discovered Clarice cliff designed this Pie bird, and registered it with A J Wilkinson's on Jan 18th 1936. Interestingly, Clarice later married the director of the A. J. Wilkinson Co., Colley Shorter! A lot of the bird vents on the internet are marked Made in England or Midwinter, but this one is only marked with the reg no 809138. It has some green streaks in the black, and the eyes aren't as well defined as some of the birds I've seen online.
Adorable pie bird
Great pie bird. Wonderful find Adele!!!!
Oh wow! You’re so lucky! I think these vintage pie birds are pretty difficult to come by!
There were 2 others on the shelf that I am kicking myself for not picking them up. 1 was orange and the other white.
