Another field trip last week to Lincoln Center to hear a phenomenal concert by the New York Philharmonic. The brilliant conductor for Dvorak’s “Rusalka Fantasy,” Sibelius’ “Concerto for Violin and Orchestra in D minor, Op. 47,” and selections from Tchaikovsky’s “The Sleeping Beauty” was Manfred Honeck. The incomparable soloist was virtuoso violinist Nikolaj Znaider. He played the 1741 “Kreisler” Guarnerius del Gesù, on extended loan to him by The Royal Danish Theater.
“Cendrillon” is the opera running through May 11. I love the advertisement!

Oh Laura, How fortunate you are to live so close the NYC and have the opportunity to see the New York Philharmonic at the Lincoln Center. This must have been an incredible experience!!
I actually have an Austrian cold painted bronze conductor. I actually spoke to the sculptor who told me the story of how his little conductor came to be.

Lincoln Center, I knew it right away, great photos. Sounds like you had an incredible time, the music you heard is classic & beautiful. Did they play that lilting piece from Sleeping Beauty, I think it's a waltz, Disney put it in his cartoon & titled it Once Upon a Dream. Your son is really getting some fantastic cultural experiences!

Scott, Manfred Honeck is Austrian! Yes, I feel very fortunate to live only 90 minutes from the city. Well, by coach bus with the kids takes quite a bit longer, but again, I do feel fortunate. And oh my goodness! I ADORE your rabbit conductor!
Thank you so much, Jenni. Yes! They did play the "Sleeping Beauty Waltz" that most people know so well. They also played one of my favorites-- Adagio: Pas d'action or "Rose Adagio," as it is often called. My son has been to the city countless times, with school and with me. We would go in more often when he was younger, and I think we're due to make another mother-son trip. My husband doesn't enjoy being in the city because of the extraversion required so it's mostly my son and me or I'll go in alone and spend the day.

Fortapache, unfortunately I won't be going to Cendrillon, no matter how much I'd love to go. There are only two performances left, and they're at night. I don't enjoy taking the late train home as there is a certain intimidating element that is on these late trains, and I don't feel safe.

Oh, Anna! I wish I’d known! The concert was at 11. We had about an hour after the performance to get lunch. Most of us ended up at Fluffy’s for pizza and sandwiches as we didn’t want the kids to go too far since we had to be on the bus by two. My friend’s daughter attends Fordham, and we would’ve met her, but she was on the Jersey shore that day. Let’s plan on another time! I’ll let you know when I next come in!
