Recent EBay find. This is an example of farmer ingenuity. During the 1880s laws were passed in most of the states requiring barbed wire manufacturers to produce visible barbed wire. Several manufacturers added wood blocks to existing wire designs. This sample is the farmer's answer. It appears that some enterprising farmer took a saw to a picket fence and made his own warning plate wire and strung it as the top wire on the fence to make it visible.
