It's not everyday a very rare aviation artifact surfaces. This airplane ashtray was once an original LUFTHANSA Ashtray from 1938 and located in an auction in Austria . The German Aircraft Manufacturer Focke-Wulf Flugzeugbau AG, produced their first FW-200 Condor Airlinerin 1937. It was an airplane to be proud of with long-range and comfort! Eventually one would fly non-stop from Germany to Floyd Bennett Field in N.Y. ushering the death knell to of the massive flying boats then in use for crossing the Atlantic.
Dimensions: Wingspan 165 mm x overall length 120 mm. The model is at about 165 mm high. Ashtray base is 140 mm x 180 mm
This vintage ashtray model features a small scale cast metal FW-200 airliner. These are rare and this particular unit may be one of just a hand-full in existence. It now sports NOS 2-blade metal props like the full-scale version. It will eventually receive pre-war black on silver Lufthansa paint and markings without the later swastika. The top of the ashtray will be gloss black with the sides silver. Original Lufthansa logo pins will be affixed to the two new nameplates. Stay tuned!!
Gorgeous thing. I'm looking forward to your finished resto!
Thanks, Will Do. First coats need to cure before intricate masking and a second shoot. I will show an update shortly.
