Wonderful desk that appears to have had some light restoration work. What would you call it? Nice dovetail work, solid drawers, and a shaker cabinet type finished back. All drawers and back are stamped "6872" but I see no other makers marks. I want to call it "captains bookcase" but i don't know. Tag at the estate sale said 1886

Call it a "slant front bookcase" LOL. Actually, it is a secretary.

I thought at first it was put together from pieces. It is not captains whatever, it appears to be art deco, possibly british ?

British could make sense. The estate had many import pieces including a couple of James Lupton and Sons pieces that we bought. I'm not even sure the ends are for books, would be many very short book.

All I have ever heard a unit like this called is a, side by side secretary desk. The majority of them have the shelves facing forward. Library desks had the shelves in this fashion but few had a drop down. Most just had a regular flat top proper for writing.
