    Hi all

This is something I picked up for virtually nothing on my trip to Scotland recently. I know it is vintage glass bead necklace, and the beads are hand blown as they are all irregular. Unfortunately someone has put a new clasp on as I expect the original one broke, but i'd really like to know what this type of glass bead is and where it's likely origin is. Any information would be great.

    Thank you
    Hamish

Hi Hamish, they're beautiful beads, what a fab find! I love the colours.

A lot of these foiled glass beads are Czech in origin, many of them come from the Art Deco period. It's a shame that the clasp has been replaced, as they often have "Made in Czechoslovakia" stamped on the jump ring.

Thank you pebble. The beads do look fantastic but I didn't have any idea about age or origin. I've looked on the internet and virtually every vaguely similar one I see is listed as Venecian, which seems to be the default for most glass items. I was a little confused by the glass colour also, quite a few of the beads are an opaque lilac, and I have no idea if this is indicitive of any specific manufacturer?

Try Murano Glass Foil Beads! There are lots of different Foil, fire foil, red foil, gold, silver etc. They look like a Foil to me. Worth a try anyway! :)

Beautiful find, unfortunately by the time beads became popular a lot of the companies stopped signing them. I collect Sherman and while sometimes the earrings are signed, the necklaces are not !~

There are lots of Venetian glass beads, but I've seen so many with the Czech stamp on the jump ring that I suspect people listing them just copy the Venetian name from other listings regardless. I guess you'll never know where they came from originally but they're beautiful no matter what :)
With the glass colour, these beads were often made with odds and ends of glass hanging around at the end of the day (hence the term "end of day") and are often a mix of whatever they've been working with that day. The colours of your beads are lovely!
