I discovered this at an antiques mall in Millerton. It was in the shop window, and I cannot believe no one else got to it before I did.
I just love it.

Lovely holy statue, beautifully carved, the wood striations and weathering are fantastic! What type wood do you think it could be? Looks like you have it on the fence of your patio deck, it looks really great there. Kudos on a super find

Just an incredible carving! It would've came home with me if I'd have seen it first. I have a cement version in my lawn, but nothing near as wonderful as this one. It's just beautiful Laura!
I hope you can get someone to carve you a new hand, what a wonderful find. When I went to Toller Cranston's auction in 81 he had so many church relics like this treasure !~
A lot of detail-wonder how old it is.
Lovely, anything signed or stamped on the bottom or anywhere ? Wonderful piece !!
Amazing find Laura. Is there remnants of paint on it or am I seeing things?
I do like it in this plain form, just interested.
Thank you for the love, Michael, Ken, Junkman60, clockerman, MyCountry, Poire, Karen, Thomas, antiquerose, Phil, fortapache, Scott, Roy, Malkey, buckethead, and Jenni!
Jenni, I am not sure of the wood, but it is solid and substantial. I do like the way it looks on the railing and wish I could keep it there but I’d be afraid the elements would destroy it. Thank you again for your kind comments.
So glad you like this statue, Malkey. Do take care and know I’m keeping you in my thoughts and prayers.
Scott, thank you so much! I so appreciate your appreciation!!! I’d love to see your cement version.
Hi Phil. So glad you like! I hadn’t thought of getting a new hand. I kind of feel it would detract from the authenticity of the statue just as repairing an antique doll usually decreases its value. I know with jewelry, it’s probably the opposite?
Mrstyndall, I’ve wondered that as well. I’ve not researched it in depth so perhaps that will give me some clues.
Thank you so much, antiquerose. No signature or stamp that I can see. A mystery.
Thank you, Thomas!
Karen, yes, there are paint remnants on the piece, and the colors used puzzle me. I also like the natural weathered look as one can really see the beauty of the wood. Thanks so much. So glad you like this!
Thanks so much, Ken!
Thank you for the love, aura!
Thank you for the love, subi450, farmlady and Mary!
Laura, hope you and your family are OK after the yesterday's storm. Just reading about the damage in your neck of the woods, and hoping that everyone is well and safe...
I'm quite sure I could sit and look at this for hours!
Anna, a belated thank you for your kind comment. How did you all fare? I hope you're all right. We were fine at our home but many people in the area had damage and lost power for a while. I've not been on here for a while as it's a busy time of year for my son at school and this month has just had one event or exam after another.
So glad you like this, JadeRockit.
