The cover is quite gruesome depicting a scene from Revelation (Bible) about the same time this was published Rudolph Valentino starred in the silent version of the film which raised him to stardome of the same name and War in Europe, He did a sizzling tango in the movie and women were sent ntto a frenzy.. His acting was flawless=ss. The film was based on a novel by the same title which was a hit in the day. The art on this cover is really spectacular!

From a time long before "LP records" and "album jackets", I've also always enjoyed the spectacular cover art which can be found on old sheet music too. One must imagine that, even back then, having the latest "new release" of the day sitting on the music rack of your front parlor piano would have been something to be proud of, in a similar way to record albums/HiFi systems (5o yrs later) and now CD's/videos/downloads/etc. (or however the current young'uns get their music, and assuming they still 'collect' it...??)

Yes, the piano was used as a display standing with sheet music on it. People wrote their names on the covers and took them along to their friends houses where the guests listened ane played the new issues they bought at the dime stores. And the publishers understood it was a smart tactic making sure the artwork was good (even if the song wasn't) Sometimes the cover sold the song Ha Ha.
