Pictured above, Lawrence Dale "Larry" Bell's, P-39 Airacobra, diamond and platinum brooch. One of 2 of the most hidden and secret treasures of World War 2, and is possibly the most historically valuable, priceless and irreplaceable, diamond and platinum brooch / commendation. ---- This royal gift was secretly and privately presented to Lawrence Dale "Larry" Bell, founder of the BELL AIRCRAFT COMPANY, ( today known as BELL HELICOPTER, a division of TEXTRON, "BELL", or "Bell Flight"), by King Peter II of Yugoslavia. in June, 1942. King Peter II was Godson and Envoy of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth, The Queen Mother, of The UNITED KINGDOM, GREAT BRITAIN. -- A Royal symbol of British and American cooperation during World War Two. This P-39 Airacobra Brooch commemorated the completion of the first order of P-39 Airacobra Fighter Military Airplanes made for the ROYAL AIR FORCE OF THE UNITED KINGDOM during World War Two. ( known as, P-39, P-400, MK-1, Caribou ) ---- The diamond and platinum P-39 Airacobra Brooch may be one of the most intricate, complicated and detailed jewelry items ever made. It has been estimated that it took 2 years to complete, start to finish, between the years 1940 to 1942. The openwork, grid construction is similar to the design construction of the arches, and half arches, of the "Imperial State Crown", made for the Coronation of King George VI, by Garrard and Company, the Royal Crown Jewellers, in 1937. There are only two of these brooches in existence, the diamond and platinum brooch and the" Silver Bullet" / "V-E Day" / ( GVII ), brooch. ---- The quality and detail of this item is unequaled. Both items were placed in a bank "trust" and hidden from public knowledge and public view for approx. 80 years. ------- Both brooches are currently located within The United States of America. -------- Reverse side pictures -- 1) Reverse side of front wings and body, solid platinum and brilliant cut diamonds. This photograph shows the " openwork, back, grid, stone mounting construction". 2) Reverse side of tail section showing the only, '2-part section', on this item. This - " V", "slot", and "pin" type of construction, is very unusual and very rare. ---------------- Both sides of the rear tail section contains 48 brilliant round cut diamonds, 24 on each side, a total of 48 brilliant round cut diamonds. -- In 1942 the USA consisted of 48 states. -- Each of the rear horizontal wing flaps contains 13, each, brilliant round cut diamonds. -- representing the 13 original Colonies of The United States during the "War of Independence" from Great Britain. This may be the only "British Royal Recognition" of "The Independence of the United States of America" from British Royal Rule. ----------- The vertical tail section ( not shown ) contains double sided emerald cut and stacked, diamonds, rubies, and sapphires. These precious stones are visible on both sides of the vertical tail section. These stones form the red and white, horizontal insignia stripes and the blue vertical stripe. Stone count is not disclosed to the public. 3) Reverse side of front right wing showing the open work, back, grid, mounting of diamonds. ( One entire horizontal row of diamonds are not shown on each front wing. ), Precious stone counts are not made public and are not visible in any photograph. 4) Reverse side of main body showing the reverse of the rock crystals used in the cockpit area, and grid sections on both right and left front wings, for diamond setting areas. ------------- The historical aspects of the P-39 Airacobra Brooch are still being collected. More information to follow. Purpose of this post is to provide information concerning the construction of this item to those involved in research.
