This little glass fellow is just under 2"H, but measures 5"L with that adorable beaver paddle tail. By Kanawha Glass of WV, w/orig label, item #19 from 1976. Unusually colored amberina, it is mostly golden yellow with body splashes of red & orange, on a sunny day it's a great example of the term "window glass animal"

      How does one tell it's a " he" :)

Lol Roy, thoughtful comment - it could be female as well, don't the moms build the dams for the families, I'm not too up on Nat Geo

I think one feels he is a he, well said Jenni, glass animals work for me in a window !~

Right Phil, I mean some animals like cats seem more "she", but we seem more accustomed to calling animals "he" when being generic. And yes, there is nothing like sunlight on a glass animal, thanks for the great comment

Roy and Phil, totally grateful for the luv & appreciation

Thank you Scott for the kind compliment, I think the beaver's kinda great too!

Glad you like my little ray of sunshine Ken, when they have the sticker on I'm so happy - but you know most of the time when I buy something I'll peel or rub stickers off, so it always amazes me the orig owners retained them

Thanx Thomas for great comment, I did know about the Kanawha river as often the West Virginia glass is called "river glass", think there are many rivers in WV & the old glass factories were located there

Aw thanks Judy for seeing my beaver's cuteness, he's pretty small but managed to photograph large enough

Aren't the colors in sunlight a great blend Trey, your compliment is so kind thank you lots

For all the luv & support I humbly thank everybody

Sweet! I have a cat in the same color, but I think the label on that is red and gold. Have to climb up on something to get to it, but the next time I am in the vicinity, I'll double check. Looks super fragile..

Thank you MrsT, it was so shiny it did get some sun rays on it, but I love when the glass is reflective, particularly a color blend like this

Probably the sticker does add value today because it helps new owners verify the piece (not everyone does exhaustive research on them like me) but I've always wondered why the orig owners didn't peel them off on purchase, as I would. Thanks as always for your comments, compliments & the luv Eileen

Thank you so much kwqd for the luv & kind comment, your cat sounds lovely you should post it, red and gold label could be Murano

      The luv greatly appreciated

Kanahwa Glass doesn't seem to ever have made it to Aus, which is a pity, because their animals are great. For a small piece, this is such a beautiful beaver; lovely shape, and a gorgeous colour mix. Look at the face! At the paddle! Adorable.

Thanks so much for the kind words about this lil beaver Karen, I'm glad you agree it's got a lot going for it, i.e. color, design etc. Kanawha Glass animals like this are pretty hard to find, I don't think they were mass produced like their competitors Viking, Pilgrim etc. because many of them don't even show up in internet photo searches - I sent away for a CD-ROM of Kanawha's catalogs so it's easier for me to ID them when unlabeled, at least this one was. Still searching for a gorgeous parakeet they did in the early 80s, but did find a pretty Murano pair for future post. I really appreciate the great comment, compliments & luv from you K with all your glass expertise, so nice of you

What a perfect observation Laura, maybe that's why I love this sunny little beaver, reminds me (and you) of the tropics - perhaps our beloved Miami
