Hi,
I picked this lamp up, have cleaned it, and am trying to find out who made it so I can put the proper filler cap onto it and the correct burner. One source told me this, “there were lamps made circa 1870-1890 St Louis, then again it could be Rayo and central draft.”, Button it is still not enough information. I found out who made the lamp with an M on the bottom via The Smithsoni but am having trouble navigating their site to find out more. Can anyone here help? Thank you! Annie
It cannot be a central draft lamp. There would have to be a hollow tube running from the base to the top, which lets air in from around a perforated foot.
Without a distinguishable mark, it is very unlikely to find a maker. This lamp would have sat in a wall-mount bracket. Any lamp manufacturer-- and there were many-- would have offered them. My guess is, most of those that survive are 1880s-1920s, based on the context of pieces I dig up.
Thank you! I don’t know how I managed to write up the wrong lamp for these pictures! Thank you very much for the context you were able to give to me! Annie
