IronLace
(929 items)
This is the latest addition to my collection of glass hand vases, found on the weekend at an antiques fair. It is made from a single layer of opaque white glass, & features gilding & hand painted decoration. Uniquely, it has a ruby glass bead set into the gilded ring.
The vase measures 15.5 cm tall, 6.5 cm across the crimped top rim, & 5.5 cm across the base, which has a rough pontil mark.
This style of small hand vase can be found in many colours, with & without decoration.
Possibly of Bohemian origin, Victorian era.
Nice, like this. Good find.

Lovely. I've never seen one look so realistic!
This is lovely IronLace..nice find..:-)
Thanks so much MALKEY!
Thanks also, Vintagefran...yes, the flesh tinted hand makes all the difference, & the "ruby" ring is the ideal finishing touch. The Victorians invented Surrealism way before Salvador Dali, Magritte, & co... :-)
Cheers inky, much appreciated! :-)
These hand vases are winning me over but I still think of ice cream when I see them.
I'm glad that you're developing a "taste" for them, artfoot! I had not thought of ice cream in relation to these but I can see it now!
