Hello Everyone.
Good Early Morning from Ontario.2018-05-24.
I was fortunate and lucky on Tuesday to find this Fine Art Book from The Dusseldorf Gallery, Circa 1888, edition 163 of 350, with 20 Original Etching from German Master Artist from the nineteen Century.
All the etching are in mint condition, protected inside the book for more than a Century.
The first one I want to share is from Ernest Bosh, 1834-1917 " IN THE PASTURE " Picture #4
ERNEST BOSCH 1834-1917
The Artist whose etching from his own picture accompanies this sketch was born in Crefeld in 1834.
His Father was lithographer, and had a large number of Children. When Ernest was but an infant his family removed to Wesel, on the lower rhine. Here the boy was sent to school and gymnasium; from the latter he graduated at fifteen and entered the studio of a portrait-painter, Herr Schex. Two years later Bosch went to Dusseldorf, where, in the Academy, he became the pupil of Carl Sohn and Hildebrandt. After a considerable time the Director of the Academy, W.Shadow , transferred Bosch to his own classes, and from this time the young painter came froward rapidly. In 1856, in company with Hiddemann , Bosch left the Academy and open a studio. In 1861 he married, and from that time held a studio in his own house, with no co-worker.
A portion of the work by witch this artist has been well known is the illustration of stories by series of sketches. In this manner he has treated"Little Red Riding-Hood,"Cinderella","Scenes from Hermann and Dorothea,"Munchausen,"The Sorrows of Werther,"and other similar books.
During first part of his artistic life dealt mainly with genre(humorous, landscape,& animal); latter period almost exclusively with women's portraits. Was also illustrator & lithographer. His works can be found at the following museums: Bremer Kunsthalle, Prov.Mus Hannover.
